As Written by Marlevane of Magickalpair 02/06 *Portions by Oberon Zell-Ravenheart Currently writing this page. I am writing this section about Wizardry because I have a passion to learn real Wizardry and I believe others share this same feeling. Some of the information I have here is from Oberon’s book "Apprentice for Wizards" (New Page Books-2005). The other information presented here I have written and is without the quotation marks. Articles about true Wizardry or even Warlocks are very scarce or nonexistent. There just isn’t much information available in books or on the internet. The term Wizard seems to have died out somewhat over the past few centuries as there are not many magickal folk using the name to describe their form of practice. However Wizardry and positive imagery of Warlocks are on the rise and I follow them and fully support both paths in the art of magick.
"Magick is the science and art of causing change to occur in conformity with Will." |
![]() What is Wizardry?I still consider myself a Witch or Warlock but I also consider myself to be a Wizard as well. Some may say that the terms might even be synonymous. I personally don’t believe they are. But a Witch or Wiccan or Druid can be considered a "Wise person" just the same. So there are many similarities in these forms of studies or practices. It is a possible analogy that all of these paths could be combined with a hint of Ceremonial craft to make up a Wizard. A person calling themselves a Wizard does so by choice. He may call himself or herself by another term such as a Mage, a Magi or Magician and still be considered a Wizard. The dictionary defines a Wizard by this: ++A piece from Oberon’s book "Apprentice for Wizards" says this about Wizards : Wizard: "A wise one". "A Wizard is also a magickal practitioner; however, the word is rarely used today to describe a practitioner of Wicca (or Witchcraft)-or a member of any particular faith. Most (but not all) Wizards tend to be solitary, though they may belong to a Wizardly Council or Order. The most famous Wizard of history was Merlin. Although the vast majority of Wizards throughout history have been men, there have been a few women Wizards as well." ![]() What do Wizards Believe?Wizards tend to be very wise of many different areas of both magick and scientifically topics of interest. Wizards usually practice wortcunning (herbal), healing techniques, astrology, alchemy, animalism, divination, spell crafting, ceremonial rituals, history, astronomy, sorcery and many more other areas. Wizards are generally associated with working close to the Dragon and Faery Realms. Wizards are very nature orientated people, much like Wiccans and Druids are. Wizardry is not a form of religion like Wicca is. Wizardry can be very compatible to Wicca, Witchcraft or Druidry. We may worship deities or generic forms of the Gods & Goddesses as well. Most Wizards have a personal journal like a book of shadows that the Witches use. They may write details of spells they have performed. They may keep herbal information or keep track of their dreams and other arcane knowledge in it too. Wizards may work with Angelic spirits, sprites, faeries, dragons or other forms of astral entities. Most Wizards also work closely with the Elemental realms being the; Spirit, Fire, Air, Water, and Earth. Most Wizards hold true to the axiom of "As above; so below." Wizards view the world around them in a different or more enhanced way than mundane (non-magickal) people do. They learn to use both hemispheres of the mind. They train to see into the astral realm and awaken their 3rd eye senses. A Wizard holds all of the Goddesses creatures and plants sacred and seeks to create harmony in the universe. A Wizard understands and accepts that he is only a microcosm in the vast macrocosm of the universe. In other words he/she knows that everything is not only interconnected but also divine. A true Wizard does not harm another human, animal, tree or other living object. We have reverence for Mother Earth or Gaia in all aspects. ![]() ++Rules for Magick & Wizardrylist was adapted from Julie Epona: ![]() What tools do we use?Wizards use a few magickal tools like other magickal practitioners. They may have a Wizards staff, a magickal wand, an athame, an altar, candles, pentacles, deity statues, cauldrons, incense burners and many more or less depending on their individual preferences. Most Wizards use an assortment of divining tools such as the famous Crystal ball. Some may use other scrying tools such as a scrying mirror or scrying bowl. Some other common tools we might have are tarot cards, rune stones, divining bones and pendulums. These tools are generally used by witches and Druids by are not limited to them. There are some less common tools that you might find in Wizards magickal paraphernalia. They are astrolabes, telescopes, hourglasses, crystals and gemstones, jars and flasks and many types of herbs or metals. Page 2 Coming Soon !!!
