In days of old, witches were held in high honor for their knowledge of herbs and natual healing. This page is a way for Marlevane and I to bring the tradition of natual healing back to modern times, and to pay homage to the witches of yesterday. We are not Doctors of course, so don't hold us responsible or liable for any problems that should arise from using any of these home remedies. We found most of the remedies from old, reliable, home remedy books. (Some were passed down from our own Grandparents too.) They are just here to help alleviate some of the minor problems that you or someone you know may encounter. We will never list major illnesses on this site, only the minor aliments such as acne, boils, the common cold, etc..so please don't ask us for major cures. As always seek professional medical help if you have a serious problem or the problem persist for long periods of time!! Also, make sure that you are not allergic to any of the herbs mentioned here, and always consult your doctor before using ANY herbs if you are pregnant or nursing. |
AcneStart out by Cleaning the face thoroughly. Then apply fresh onion juice to the afflicted areas. Leave on for several minutes then rinse. Use daily for best results. Also, you can try using an ice pack to reduce the inflammation. Avoid using oil based make-ups. Water-based products are better for your skin. Always avoid squeezing or picking at them, as this will increase the chance of spreading. Witch Hazel is a good astringent to cleanse with. BackachesHere are a few things you can try: Lie on your stomach and put a heating pad on your back for awhile. The heat seems to alleviate the pain. Some say using an ice pack then the heat works best. Lying on your side(in an "S" shape) with a pillow between your knees seems to help as well. A good warm soak in the tub can help you too. A strong aspirin can help sometimes. If you cannot take aspirin, try taking a dose of White Willow Bark. (Aspirin was once made from willow.) One product in particular that we have used and works is Biofreeze. You can buy this item at almost every drug store. Bee StingsBasil works great to prevent swelling and pain. Just rub on the afflicted area. Aloe vera also works on stings too. BitesMoisten the area, then rub an aspirin on the area of the bite. Blood pressure (high)Eating onions regulary can help to keep your pressure down. Taking an aspirin at least once a day can reduce it also. New Jersey Tea drank can help as well. Chives are good for this too. BoilsDrinking an herbal tea can help some. Applying tea bags to the boil might help also. Taking a hot sitz bath (no soap) helps alot. The water need to be as hot as you can stand it. The heat from the water will bring the boil to a head, then it will pop. Probably one of the better remedies is to make a poultice(a hot Compress) of herbs and then applying it to the problem area. Using Parsley, Comfrey, Chickweed, peach leaves steeped in boiling water to make the poultice. *May take several applications. Burns & CutsAloe Vera is about the best Herbal remedy you can use on burns and scrapes. Just apply a generous amout of the liquid substance from the plant directly on the afflicted wound or cut. It is also good for some skin disorders. Calendula as a salve is good too. Yarrow can relieve pain and is a an excellent antiseptic.
Cradle CapShampoo as normal, then prepare this to the scalp: 1/2 cup of calendula and a 1/2 cup of chamomile flowers to 1-pint of water into a pot. Boil and let steep for about 30 minutes. Strain then use it as a rinse after shampooing baby's hair/scalp. Make sure it isn't too hot before applying it to the baby. DandruffOne treatment is to dissolve 10 asprins in a cup of warm water. Then massage into the scalp for about 10 or 15 minutes. Then rinse it out really good. Next add vinegar rinse to help cleanse the scalp. You can use this treatment after every shampoo for a short while. More to come soon! If you have anything to submit to this page, please e-mail us and we will add it with full credit to you! :-)
