General Info
First of all I would like to tell you this, Herbs are very magickal and always have been. They are from the Mother Earth and are a gift from the Goddess. But each Herb is ruled by a specific planetary ruler and and also by a specific Deity. Some even have a Feminine or Masculine gender/characteristics. Some of the Herbs are poisonous too, so be careful and research an Herb extensively before ingesting it into your body.
As always, Herbs are to NEVER take place of modern day Doctors or Medicines. If a serious problem exist, please seek a qualified Doctor/Hospital!
Magickal Uses
Herbs can be used to alleviate pain, aches, and ailments of all kinds. They are not just used in increasing the potency of spells. Magickal Herbs can be used as a tea and drank. They can be used in a bath. They can be made into your "own" special blend of incense. They can also be used for a protection from negative influences or to ward off spirits. Believe it or not, but you can make a Sachet bag (mojo bag) of selected herbs to increase psychic awareness and ability. You can even attract spirits to yourselves for communication, if you so desire. Whatever the reason for needing to use Herbs they are a natural way to go about it.
More Magick Uses
There are a lot of ways to use the herbs. Poppets are one way. By stuffing a handmade poppet (or doll) with enchanted herbs you selected for the spell. Like for instance, you may want to attract "a" new love or maybe you are suffering from a cold or something like that. Well, by making a doll in fashion of the personal qualities you desire or seek could attract that special someone. The enchanted herbs will just make the spell a lot more powerful than without them.
For the latter poppet, fashion the doll in your self image and using corresponding enchanted herbs weave your healing spell and let the poppet take away the ailment.
Where Do I Get Herbs?
This is a really good question. Growing your own herbs like the ancients did would be great wouldn't it? But that may not be practical or even possible in this day and age since most of us Wiccans do live in the city. Or maybe you just don't have the greenthumb thing going on for you. Well, there are alternatives for you. We use to buy alot of our herbs from the local pagan/occult shops in our area. (Unfortunately, both shops that were near us have gone out of business. I pray to the Goddess that they will be back in business some day.)
If you have a occult/New Age store close to you, it's a good chance that they will have a huge list of cut/whole herbs, resins, oils and many books on magick/spiritual paths. Most of the herbs that might require you to do magick workings are surprisingly very inexpensive. You might also do some researching on the net if you don't mind doing online ordering.
