I decided to write this section about using Dragons in your magickal workings as they are great allies to have. I have always loved everything to do with Dragons ever since I was a young boy. Now I am much older and wiser and have rediscovered the awesome world of Dragons. I offer this section to others who are friends and lovers of the Dragon world. The book written by D.J. Conway entitled "Dancing with Dragons" has really opened my eyes to see the true world of Dragons and has inspired me to write about them for our web viewers who also may want to learn about them. |
Do they really exist? Do you believe in Dragons? I certainly do and a lot of other occult practitioners do also. However most scholars and scientist will deny the existence of them because they have to see real physical proof they exist. If they have no evidence of bones then they do not believe in them. The question should be; do they exist in our physical world or another dimension or also known as the astral world? Dragons most certainly do exist.
There are really 3 main types of Dragons in existence. One type of them are of the astral world along with other beings such as faeries, spirits, sprites, and demons. These are known as the Elemental Dragons. They are related closely to the other Elementals such as: Gnomes, slyphs, salamanders and the undines. These Dragons could be considered a part of the faery world. I also believe they (dragons) once existed in our world as well which may have been during the Dark age period. These Dragons of physicality are labled "Terrestrial Dragons" and were manifested on this realm of the Earthly plane of existence. While they are a dragon of Earth, some also had wings and flew about they skies. Another type are the Dragons of the Heavens and are considered "Celestial Dragons". They are mostly in the higher heavenly realms and are associated with the Chinese Dragons. However, they can be also associated as another angelic and divine being. Throughout the ages many different cultures believed that they did in fact exist. Every culture of peoples thoughout the ages have made drawings, murals, statues and artwork pertaining to these ancient beasts of power. Wales even has a Red and Gold Dragon on their Flag.
How would you use them, magickally? They can be summoned to help in a magick ritual. They can be guides to magicians much like a spirit guide. You can call upon your Dragon helper or guide for many things. They can be used to aid you in divination or healing work. They can be used as co-magicians in ritual and in spell crafting. According to D.J. Conway, they prefer to be equal and treated with much respect. They will not do just any magickal whim that someone would want to conjure up. If you are to call upon the aid of Dragons, you better have a good reason to be calling them. They are not a fun toy to be playing and messing around with. If you want to add power to your spells or have great co-magicians to work alongside, then you should learn to become a friend and show them you mean no harm to them. You want to gain there trust and not break it once you do get it.
Are they all the same? They are individualistic in every aspect. So no they are not all the same. There are many different Dragons and each one has its own qualities. There is a Dragon for all the elements. There are Dragons of all shapes and sizes wings or no wings. The most well known group of Elemental Dragons are; Water Dragons, Fire Dragons, Earth Dragons, Air Dragons, and Spirit Dragons. Their are two spirit Dragons known as Dragon of light and Dragon of Darkness. There are other Dragons such as Chaos Dragons, Guardian Dragons, Dragons of Planets, Dragons of Zodiac and many more. To learn more in depth about the many different Dragons, get a copy of "Dancing with Dragons" it is an excellent book on the subject of matter.
Are there any tools needed?Ritual tools are not needed to work any type of magick since the magick power is in the magician itself. However there are some ritualistic tools that will help enhance the power you can create along with the power of the Great Draconis. Magickal tools can help to elevate the power or energy generated during rituals. Dragons are especially attracted to gemstones, semi-precious stones and other shiny objects. According to D.J. Conway, you may also want to acquire a Dragon pentacle, a Dragon Sword and or Athame, staff, wand, a chalice, some incense, candles and an altar. Most Wiccans, Wizards and Ceremonial Magicians will already have some of these tools in their personal collections. If you cannot afford all these or other items you desire to work with, then they can be simple representations of the tools or be handmade which is preferable in all magick. D.J. Conway also suggests having a magickal staff for working with dragons and a wand. I don’t have a staff yet, and I rarely use a wand. You should use whatever is comfortable to you and what you feel is needed to effectively work Dragon magick.
The tools that I personally I own.....I have a Dragon Tarot deck that I use for divination. The Celtic Dragon Tarot was a Yule gift from my wife. I love the deck a lot. It has great pictures designed by Lisa Hunt and a book written by D.J. Conway. It works great for working with the Dragon realm and reading peoples cards, since it is a full 78-card deck with a guide book. I also have an altar setup just for Dragon magick which includes a black candle, white candle, dragon chalice, a pentacle disk, my Athame, a Dragon sword, incense burner, dragons blood ink with parchment paper, my Book of Shadows and my 3" crystal ball. I also have a large graphic of a Dragon hovering a pentagram with my name on it, that I made with Paint Shop Pro (computer graphics program) and some tubes that I hung on the wall above my Dragon altar.
