Before performing any spell, it's always best to cast a circle around you and your work space. If it is an elaborate spell, then you may want to perform the spell when you do a ritual. But if it's a simple candle spell, then closing your eyes, and visualizing a white light of protection surrounding you will do the trick. You can even place a ring of salt around the candle holder, so you can do other things and your candle will be protected. (But remember to check the candle often. You don't want a fire in your home!!)

Guidelines for Candle Magick

Please note: ALWAYS USE COMMON SENSE WHEN DOING CANDLE MAGICK!! Do not allow the candles flames near fabric of any kind, children/pets, flammable substances such as gasoline/kerosene, or your hair. (I have very long hair, and once upon a time, I caught it on fire! It was not very fun, and didn't look so pretty afterwards!! ~lol~) Do not leave a burning candle unattended!! Watch it very carefully. You do not want to cause an injury to a person or a fire to your home!! To be on the safe side, keep a vessel of water or a fire extinguisher near by!!

1. First, gather all the items you will need for the spell, such as herbs, oils, a candle holder, and of course, the candle!! I always use a candle that is colored for my specific need, as it seems to give the spell more punch. (If you would like to see a list of colors and their magickal properties, click here.) If you do not have a candle of the appropriate color, then white will do.

2. Hold the candle in your hand, strongly visualize your need, and send the energy into the candle. Visualization is the key word here, and the most important part of the spell. Really, really visualize what you need. † If love is what you're seeking, then see yourself meeting a wonderful person, going out on that first date, getting to know each other though phone calls/chat, the first kiss, and eventually falling in love. See your vision from the beginning to the very end. The same goes for money, healing, or any other reason you might be doing a spell.

3. Now would be a good time to carve any symbols that represent your need, into the candle.( Ex: hearts for love, money signs for money, special runes, etc..) This part is optional, but Marlevane and I do it. Symbols make the spell will work better. Another reason you may want to carve a symbol is to focus better. Many cannot visualize well, and seeing a symbol can help your mind focus on the intension of the spell.

4. Now you might want to anoint the candle with a special scented oil, to attract energy to you spell. (Please note: do not use any kind of flammable oil or substance on the candle.) 5. Now, for the very last step. Reaffirm your intentions for the spell. Keep the visualization in your mind. You may also want to state it aloud by chanting, singing, or simply yelling it. Light the candle to release the built up energy, and it is done!! Let the candle burn down completely.

If it is not possible to let the candle burn down all the way, snuff it out, keep it in a safe place, and then light it again the next day. But if you do that, then you must repeat step 5 again..don't forget!! Burn the candle everyday until the candle is gone.

†Never perform a love spell on a specific person without their knowledge. If you do, it is considered manipulation, and goes against the rule that everyone has free will. If love is your intention, think of the type of person you would like to meet, NOT A SPECIFIC PERSON. It's ok to think of hair color, body type, personality, or even the astrological sign of someone you would like to meet, but never, ever think of Joe Blow, or Jane Doe down the street!!
